At Greenhill, 2018-present

“English with Dr. Seeskin this year has been amazing. She is one of the best English teachers I have ever had. In class, she does a great job of getting us engaged in interesting conversations and I always feel heard and accepted in this class. This year, I have learned a lot about myself and my identity through this class, and Dr. Seeskin has really helped with that.”

“I hope that Dr. Seeskin will not change the way that she receives questions and answers them thoughtfully and in a timely manner. I also enjoy the discussions that we have in class on the different books that we are reading at the time, especially when we go around the room and everyone has written on a whiteboard.”

“I hope that this teacher doesn’t change her passion for what she is teaching. It is evident that she loves her job and loves what she teaches which makes her classes so interesting.”

On Literary License Without Limits, Summer 2017

"In these three weeks, this class has taught me so much. I've learned new techniques for poetry (alliteration, assonance, imagery, and new ways to use these devices), received advice for writing novels, stories, and speeches (write about what you know and what you believe in, read out your dialogue to see if it sounds natural), and was taught about word patterns I could've never begun to imagine (iambs, trochees, spondees). Leaving this class, I know now that the way to write and finally produce something amazing is to keep at the craft. I know now to not stop writing, to write every day, to persevere."

"During Literary License Without Limits, I honed my writing skills and produced works of poetry and prose that have each relayed a truth about myself. I like to write realistic fiction and creative nonfiction, but over the course of this term I have seen that all genres of writing are important and have their place in the literary world."

"Overall this has probably been the best class I have ever attended at TIP. It has made me more comfortable being myself and has helped me grow as a human being. Many of my thoughts and opinions have started to make their way into my writing without me even noticing. My voice is now stronger than ever."

"[In just] these three weeks, I've seen myself be more specific with my word choices, started paying more attention to how things sound and flow. I've learned to step back and critique others works which has, in turn, helped me analyze and edit my own projects. As I went through the prompts and exercises in this class, I've expanded my own personal beliefs and dug deeper into what I believe and understand. I can only hope that as I continue to write, my ideas and truths will be able to shine through my work as gracefully and effortlessly as I've witnessed others do in this course."

On The Lives of Autobiography, Spring 2016

"Course overall was a success. I learned so much about autobiographies that I do not think I would have learned otherwise in the class."

"The level of instruction was excellent! Professor Seeskin was always willing to meet me outside of class (multiple times!) and she fostered a great class dynamic. Furthermore, she was always prepared for class with stimulating questions!"

"I haven't taken any English classes at Duke so this course was difficult for me, but I still really enjoyed it!"

"Abby was excellent and honestly one of my favorite professors at Duke."

"I was pleasantly surprised by this course. It opened my eyes to autobiography as a genre and the vast array of utliziable styles possible when telling your own story."

On Victorian Literature, taught by Kathy Psomiades, Fall 2015

"For my TA Abby: I loved working with her and found her comments about my papers to be very helpful. The comments were clear and constructive and made it very easy to make revisions. She was always very nice about any changes that needed to be made and was always available to meet. I also really appreciate how flexible and understanding she was in dealing with my difficult travel schedule because she always figured out ways to help me during the small windows of time that I had and generally made everything less stressful."

On Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down: The Rhetoric of Critique, Summer 2015

"In three weeks, you taught me more than most teachers have taught me in a year. You taught me about myself, as well as those around me. You taught me the most important skill of being open minded. You also gave me an incredible gift: being able to think for myself."
